Arthur Hardy will be speaking about Carnival in New Orleans and signing his 2015 Mardi Gras Guide and the fifth edition of his coffee table book, Mardi Gras In New Orleans, An Illustrated History at the East Jefferson Library, 4747 West Napoleon Avenue, Metairie,LA 70001 at 7PM on Wednesday, January 14. The KREWE OF CEASAR of announced yesterday that SPIDERMAN and IRON MAN will ride as guest grand marshals in this year's 36th annual parade entitled "Broadway on Parade." Metairie's largest parading club has featured kid-friendlt celebrities such as the Power Rangers, Snoopy, and Mickie and Minnie Mouse in past years. The parade rolls on Saturday, February 7.
The KREWE OF NYX was honored this week by New Orleans Council Member at Large Jason Williams. The club was presented with a proclamation from the New Orleans City Council for being the largest all female Krewe in Mardi Gras history!!

Finally, the Carnival season officially begins today as it always does, on January 6-Twelfth Night. The Mayor and representatives of all Orleans Parish parading krewes kick things off at 10AM at Mardi Gras World with a king cake party. Then tonight the St. Joan of Arc parade strolls through the French Quarter at 6PM, and the PPP (Phunny Phorty Phellows) board a St. Charles streetcar at 7PM to herald the start of the season. And this will be a short season, with Fat Tuesday only six weeks from today.

Forget New Year's celebrations-the parades are coming!
Distribution of the 39th annual Mardi Gras Guide has begun and by Twelfth Night, some 40,000 copies will be in circulation. A digital edition can also be ordered from the site. The fifth revised (2014) edition of our coffee table book, Mardi Gras In New Orleans, An Illustrated History is in book stores and may be ordered here (free shipping).
