Tonight, the popular HIDDEN TREASURES-CARNIVAL EDITION continues at the Louisiana State Museum's Collection Storage Facility as rare Carnival artifacts are pulled from storage just for the occasion. Tours are Thursday, January 29, at either 6:00 or 7:00 p.m. at 1000 Chartres Street in the French Quarter. You can also visit www.friendsofthecabildo.org to make a reservation and for more information.

On Monday, Feb. 9, Loyola University New Orleans will host MARDI GRAS FORUM: THE WOMEN OF CARNIVAL, a forum featuring leaders from Carnival krewes such as Iris, Muses, DIVAs, and the Society of St. Anne. It will take place at 5 p.m. in Nunemaker Auditorium, located on the third floor of Monroe Hall. It is free and open to the public.

WYES has announced that its annual telecast of the REX BALL AND THE MEETING OF THE COURTS will be streamed live for the first time.

Congratulations to my friend and fellow Mardi Gras expert ERROL LABORDE. In partnership with New Orleans Magazine, WWL-TV Channel 4 will present daily "Eye on Carnival" features on parade days with Carnival historian Errol Laborde. The segments on Carnival history will premiere Feb. 6 and air each parade day during the station's morning and 6 p.m. newscasts.

A large collection of Mardi Gras memorabilia is being offered this Sunday starting at 11 AM at NEAL AUCTIONS, 3923 Carondelet St., New Orleans.

Do not look for REX to arrive by boat on Lundi Gras in 2015. This year the King of Carnival will enter Spanish Plaza aboard a vintage railroad car.

The KREWE OF CAESAR added SPIDERMAN and IRON MAN to its parade lineup. Some 1,500 holographic Spiderman cards will be thrown.

According to Offbeat magazine, "Funeral arrangements for BIG CHIEF THEODORE "BO" DOLLIS, who died this week at the age of 71, have been set for this weekend. A visitation and music tribute will be held at the Carver Theater on Friday, January 30. The visitation, which will begin at 4 p.m. and last until 7 p.m., will be free and open to the public.

The HAPPENINGS section of this year's Mardi Gras Guide outlines many of this weekend's events, including the KREWE DU VIEUX and KREWE DELUSION parades on Saturday night.

And don't forget SLIDELL's triple-header with the BILGE boat parade Saturday mid-day, MONA LISA & MOON PIE Saturday night, and the PERSEUS parade on Sunday.

The KREWE OF CHOCTAW is honoring JIMMY CLARK as Grand Marshal of the 2015 Choctaw parade. Jimmy is a Mardi Gras historian and former throw manufacturer. He has also contributed many stories to the Mardi Gras Guide and is himself the subject of a story in this year’s magazine.

My Mardi Gras Guide daily reports on WWL RADIO start Friday, February 6.

Next Thursday on WYES, the first of several airings of STEPPIN OUT - IT'S CARNIVAL TIME is scheduled for 7 PM. PEGGY SCOTT and ERROL LABORDE and I have been a part of this program every year since 1986.

This week WDSU cameraman Kevin Duckworth and I finished our interviews with captains of 48 parading krewes in a four-parish area. The KREWE OF SLIDELLIANS will parade on January 25, as stated in the 2015 Mardi Gras Guide, and not on the 18th, which this website incorrectly posted. We apologize for the error.

Carnival's oldest gay club, the KREWE OF PERTONIUS announced the cancellation of its ball for 2015. The group hopes to return in 2016.

At the Mayor’s Mardi Gras Advisory Committee meeting yesterday, NOPD once again stated that no parade routes will be affected by construction on Jefferson or Napoleon Avenues. However, parade-goers on the neutral ground along Napoleon will have only about five feet to stand between the street and the fenced-off construction zone. No ladders will be permitted.
