The Carnival calendar is full this weekend

Tonight the Jefferson Parish Inaugural King's Day Carnival Kickoff will be at Lafreniere Park at 6 PM. The public is invited to the free event where krewe captains and royalty will be introduced.

The oldest female krewe, Iris, presents its annual ball tonight. The club has moved from the Pontchartrain Center to the New Orleans Hilton. Tomorrow night at the Morial Convention Center, the Endymion Coronation ball will he held and a 50th anniversary king will be selected by lottery.

Also Saturday night in Covington, the fifth annual march of the St. John's Fools of Misrule will parade at 6PM

On Sunday, this year's first two-preseason parades roll in Slidell as the 30-year old Krewe of Claude rolls at 1 PM followed by the new Krewe of Poseidon, which promises more than 400 members.

Celebrity watch-will we finally learn the identities of Bacchus and the Orpheus monarch this weekend?

Carnival begins for real Wednesday as the Mayor and representatives of all New Orleans krewes gather at Mardi Gras World to kick off the 2016 season.

In the evening St. Joan or Arc march in the French Quarter, while the Phunny Phorty Phellows ride the St. Charles Avenue streetcar to usher in the festive season.

The Mystic Krewe of Satyricon’s Twelfth Night Ball will be held that night at Cafe Istabul, 2372 St. Claude Avenue. Admission by $20 donation.

I will appear on the Fox 8 Morning News show January 6 at 8:15 AM and on the 4 PM and 5 PM newscasts as we preview the Phunny Phorty Phellows parade.

Darth Vader and the Star Wars Group of the 501st Legion has been chosen as Grand Marshal of the Krewe of Caesar Parade, which rolls Saturday, January 30, 2016 in Metairie at 6:00 pm. This chapter of the world wide Star Wars Group is known as the 501st Legion of Louisiana. The world wide group has over 10,000 members. They have partnered with Children’s Hospital, Make-A-Wish Foundation and several other charitable groups to aid in their fund raising efforts.
